Dr. C. F. W. Walther, was the first president of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod and of the Evangelical Lutheran Synodical Conference of North America.

He was a towering theologian and for may years professor and president of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.

Concordia Cyclopedia refers to him as the “most commanding figure in the Lutheran Church of America during the nineteenth century: and as being the author of numerous theological books and articles, “enough to make a full sized ‘five foot bookshelf’”.
